23 Kerala Bn was  raised as “ 2 Kerala NCC Rifles ” at Shoranur on     05 Sep 1960.  During October 1960 this Bn shifted to Calicut due to administrative reasons and remained there till November 1960. In January 1961 the unit was re-designated as “ 4 Kerala NCC Rifles ”. The designation was again changed to “ 54 Kerala NCC Rifles Bn ” in 1963 and as “ 22 Kerala Bn NCC ” on August 1964.  During these years the  Bn  changed its location to “GOKULAM” Building at CHEROOR and “ BLOOM FIELD ” at Kuriachira.

 

The Bn was designated as NCC Group Headquarters for a brief period on 01 September 1964 .In  1969 the  Bn  shifted to TRICHUR town and started functioning in the  “ BHARATHY BHUSHANAM ” building .  In 1975, the Bn  shifted to" PUNKUNNAM  MUKTI ” Trichur.  The unit shifted from Punkunnam to East Fort, Trichur on 01 Jul 1979 and finally  to its present location “ BETHEL ASHRAM COMPLEX ”, Mission Quarters, Trichur on 01 Dec 2010.  The Bn  was re-designated  as “ 23  Kerala  Bn  NCC ”  vide GO. Rt  815/78/H Edn  dt 11 May 1978.

. .  The unit has a strength of 7 SD Coys spread over 13 Colleges/HSS Schools/Polytechnics and 14.5 JD Tps spread over 16 High Schools under command. At present Bn is shifted to new permenent location constructed by State Govt at NCC Nagar Complex< Kuttanellur w.e.f 01 June 2017. Lt Col Vinod Divakaran is Offg Officer Commanding of this unit since 23 Nov 2017.
